1/2 lb! She is purdy, though! Do you put those in 20 x 20's?

You could use it for a pocket piece if you had big pockets.

I agree .. it would have to be big pockets....
I saw this and just had to have it... I paid $111.00 ... I hope that was a good deal.

I assume that isn't a troy pound or it's way below melt.

I assume it is 1/2 troy, not avoirdupois, pound which would be 6 troy ounces. It would probably have a small premium over spot since it is nicer than a generic round but I wouldn't expect much more than $125.

Okay ... new question I did a web search. Two sites show this as 8 ounces. One of the sites is the mint site. http://www.usmint.gov/consumer/?fla...&action=tipsSo I put it on the scale. It came up 249.9 grams (mint site shows 248.82). Then I weighed a silver eagle at 31.1. That would make this 8 ounces. Seeing how the coin only says half pound and not troy pound .... am I right in thinking this is 8 ounces?

Waredu Thanks for the link. It still seems a little confusing. The Washington mint site says this coin has 8 troy ounces, and my weighing it, shows it is the same as 8 ASE's. But I have always had the understanding that a troy pound is 12 troy ounces. Also interesting is that they are selling the 2010 date of this coin for $299.00

That is what I am thinking too ... I was thinking I got a good deal when I thought it was 6 ounces .. now I am very very happy to find out it is 8 ounces.
Here is a couple of lines from the Washington Mint (Collectible America) site
"Here at Collectible America, we have discovered that many of our customers are not readily familiar with Troy weights, which is why we have chosen to strike our Half Pound Silver Eagles to a full 8 troy ounces (even though a Half Troy pound is actually only 6 oz.). "

I have heard that these will only be available through dealers. This is the first one I've seen in anyone's hands. Will there be anyone here on coin community offering them?

Bought one awhile ago at spot. I haven't tried to resell yet. It's actually a nice piece. Think I can get a tube to hold 20 of them?

I've had a few of these in past and they can be either troy or avoirdupois weights. Usually the one's on the troy scale will be labeled "Troy XXXX".
My guess is 8 avoirdupois ounces (7.3 troy ounces) and you got an excellent deal. These trade at melt price and I always weigh silver/gold/etc to verify weight.
