I don't know what to make of this one. I found this a while ago when I was just trying to sort by date. What do you think, 1954, 1957 PMD?

1951, probably subjected to counting/rolling machine damage that typically affects the last digit of the date.

The way to tell is the distorted digit is parallel to the rim.

Makes sense. So the base of the L is just some copper dug up from the field or scraped off the 1?

Looks to me like a 54-D that was punched with some debris on the die.

(tee-hee)...you're all wrong and this is one of those places where ONLY years of looking through coins can pay off.

This is no doubt a 1952 cent. How can I tell? It's the ONLY year in which that particular "dagger bottom" five was used on a Lincoln Cent. ALL other years in the 1950s had a larger, more curved five.

Wow, I just had to look. My lesson for the day.
Good eye. Now, what happened to the curl in the 2 ?

Scraped into oblivion by a counting machine.

This coin reminded me of something I had thought about in the past.
Just another "Term" usage. PMD (post mint damage)
I wonder how many that use that term are talking about damage to a coin after it physically leaves the mint ?
Or do they mean post minting damage ?
A lot can happen to a coin after the punch and before it hits circ.
Here I am "The" acronym hater and I find myself getting caught up
in it now. How about diff. terms. post strike damage or circ. damage.
Never mind, theres enough terms/acro's as it is :)
