Here is another new purchase which was basically priced as a bullion coin. It seems pretty nice to me and I wonder how the Community might see it, gradewise. Opinions?

Certainly looks like a nice piece that could go anywhere from AU58 to MS63. The tip of the left wing and the eagles neck might have slight rubs as does the bun of Miss Liberty's hair but I've seen MS coins with similar features.

I'd try to get it in an MS slab if it were mine. I think it has a great shot at MS62.

I agree with bherring. Appears to be some definite wear on the Eagle's left wing tip and neck. There are quite a few ticks on the reverse that might hold it down a little bit. Don't know what you have in it, but grading it certainly wouldn't hurt you. And if it comes back MS, who knows?

Wow, and at today's gold prices! Definately send it to a TPG. Even if it comes back as AU55 you've, over, doubled your investment.

I have an 1899 certified by ngc as au58. I think yours looks better. But I agree if you bought this near bullion pricing you did very well. I could not see this grading below au58. Beautiful coin.....enjoy

It looks like there might be some rim damage on the front about 6;30, but still seems to be a nice AU. I'd have it graded too.
Rest in Peace

Very nice coin! That's a great purchase for bullion price. I'll go with AU-58 also, but a great looking AU-58!

Thanks for all the comments, folks!
I showed this piece to a dealer friend and he said it has altered surfaces. I do think the obverse luster is weak considering the lack of visible wear but I don't see a serious flaw. I'm satisfied it was decent deal at about 10% over melt, but maybe it's not the MS-62-ish candidate I was hoping for.
