This comes with an older ANACS label that had a net grade and a details grade. I know the grade. I will post it later. I bought this over some other coins for my type set because the details are pretty nice and I think I'd rather have that than an example with less detail and smooth surfaces. After 207 years, I don't think it will get any worse in my lifetime. If anyone knows the Breen classification or number or whatever it is called. I would appreciate that. Thanks. So make your guesstimates.

Wheezy, I don't have the Breen book on large cents, but I would definitely say this is the large 5 with stems. Coin does have some corrosion, but what the heck, I'll probably have some corrosion after 205 years too. Nice coin.

In the Red Book I saw that there are images for the Large and Small dates and for the Large and Small fractions dated 1803. After further review, I would identify this 1803 Small date Large fraction with stems. Now I did a search and found a lot more info with images. I was thinking of Sheldon not Breen but made that mistake in my original post. Here on PCGS is plenty of info. http://www.coinfacts.com/large_cent...arieties.htm

and Breen 19 huh? I agree, the top line of the 3 is higher than the 0. If it continued, it almost would go over without even touching the 0, where almost all the others I see the top would go into the 0 no problem. When comparing the size of the number 3 on a large date, there is no question that it is a small date.

Wheezy, I really don't know anything about Breen, other than he was nobody I would want to share the planet with.

Quote: Wheezy, I really don't know anything about Breen, other than he was nobody I would want to share the planet with. LOL I don't either but now I'll have to investigate why. EDIT: Well, that didn't take long. Breen was diagnosed with liver cancer in 1992, and died in prison in Chino, California the next year. His widow was successfully sued by the Goldin family, due to her knowledge and facilitation of his criminal behavior. I read what his major malfunction was and I am glad there is one less of these people on this planet myself.
