This is not directed towards anyone, so please don't take this personally.

I would like to see that the Post Numismatic Items You Want To Sell Here had a rule.
This would make things easier.
No responses with "PM sent".

It is too vague. Here's a post example that would be better for everyone including the seller.
Title by Seller:
Key date Lincoln Wheat cents for sale.
Message:
1909 S Lincoln Cent $100.00 BN VF
1914 D Lincoln Cent $250.00 BN Fine

shipped and insured to US only. Outside of US postage paid by buyer.
Check MO or Paypal accepted.

Description of any problems and estimated or actual grade with clear images if possible.

I think the rule should say that a proper response to a listing should be more in line with something like.

Buyer : I will buy the 1909 S Lincoln, PM sent.

The reason I am posting this is because so many people see a listing and post "PM sent" only and the rest of the community has no idea what is still available.
This hurts the seller as some people, including myself, will not ask about what is left, nor is the seller sitting at the computer 24 hours a day ready to respond and update.

When an item is committed to, it should be marked SOLD or at least ON HOLD for (buyer's name).
If the buyer defaults by not paying or backs out, the item should be marked Still available.
This would make people think twice about committing to buy something and publicly being seen as a non paying buyer.

So my point is that if we are going to have a member selling section, all members should be able to see if things are available to buy.
I see too many people posting PM sent that gives them an edge over buying something before others see it, even though the item may not yet be sold.

There is this direction on top of all the listings which seems to be ignored a lot.
Be courteous. Here's what to do when your topic here is done This should be followed and the moderators will move it to the ENDED section.

Oh and I am probably guilty of this myself. I apologize.
I won't do it from here on out.

Can we still change the title after 24 hours? Or was that just for posts?

I use "PM sent" on a post in case my email was placed in the buyers "spam" folder. This lets the seller know I have a question. If I want to haggle or ask questions about what the seller has it is between the seller and myself, not everyone else. I do agree that if an item is sold or not sold, the seller should indicate that.

Yeah those are all good points. When somebody lists more than 1 item for sale and you see people responding by saying "PM sent" then you have no idea what still might be availble and what they bought(if anything). The post should say what items you PMed about so everybody knows what is left You can still put "PM sent" to let the seller know that you have emailed them and then if you want to haggle or whatever it can still be done. Plus I think it keeps it easier for the seller as far as keeping it first come first served.

I agree wheezydog. I have thought about posting this exact thing a few times.

Someone lists several items and you see PM sent. PM sent on what? Is the coin I'm interested in involved? And you're right, I have not even inquired on a few items because I didn't know if it was still available or not. This would hurt the seller in the long run. If nothing else, maybe the seller should protect him or herself and follow up with PM replied on item xxxxx.

I'm glad someone brought it up. I've been wanting to.

I did not post this to incite arguments. I value all comments and people are entitled to their opinions.
I hope people don't comment about what others said whether they like it or not.
Let's keep this suggestion constructive and peaceful. Thank you family.

I see it has also been moved. My bad, I should have posted it here in the suggestions and feedback instead of the for sale section.
Rest in Peace

I have a problem with not just this, but PM's direct without being noted in the topic. I had several things for sale and trade and some for free on this forum, some stuff else where, plus my non coin related business. I received a SASE with a note of thanks, but not a note of thanks for what. I read my mail at work, at home and sometimes on my nephews laptop, so God knows where the original email was saved. So am sending out 2 each 2010 P dimes and nickels, and hope that's what I was being thanked for.

Sometimes I send PM's without saying so in the topic at all... could be because it's only a question, or because it's a pricey item and I don't feel like advertising my purchase (or attempt at one).

I am guilty of the "PM sent" response my self. If it is a listing with multiple items it can be very confusing and actually cause the seller to receive numerous PM's for already sold items.

Best idea I have heard all day.

I would think common courtesy to other members would dictate something more than "PM sent". If you are buying an item a simple "I'll take X, PM sent" is sufficient.....If you want more info or to haggle you could post "I'm interested in X, PM sent", or "Question about X, PM sent".

I understand not wanting everyone to know all the details of a transaction & don't have a problem with that. I don't care if people want to try to negotiate a better price....I'm pretty cheap & like to haggle myself. The problem is that a "PM sent" on this forum is about the same as "I'll take it", & it's unfair to everyone involved to claim "I'll take it" when you really mean "I'll take it if you reduce your price".

Not sure about making it a rule. What it comes down to is we need to instill it as new culture that everyone slowly transitions to. Most new sellers mimic the sales of others in ideas and layout. Start new culture that works and others will follow

well the Pm sent doesn't bother me one way or the other. If its something I want I will still inquire to see if its available. Actually I dont even like to post PM or email sent. I like to send an email b.c I feel everyone dont need to know what I am buying. I will sometimes hit pm sent but not much. I actually had an incident where I sent an email "with out saying pm sent in the message" saying ill take them, and got denied lol b.c I didnt post it in the forum and by the time I got back someone else bought them lol. Win some loose some no big deal

Thank you for some moderator/admin input there GraceOutcast
I feel so strongly about this that I have posted some items for sale with my terms. I guess that's all I can do is set an example and if it's my listing, well I can do it my way I suppose as long as it is in line with the rules.

This makes more sense now to me than in the past. With not being able to edit the original post (I used to strike through things that sold).

I will begin being more communicative with my transactions.
