Hello all, on a recent trip I found what I believe to be the above in the $18 pile. My question is that I have all the markers "except the "clashed D" from VAM 38 A. Not sure if it's hidden in the toning / dirt as some of the "other" clashing is stronger and some weaker. Should I look at any other VAM's for further clarification? As this coin also has heavy pitting on the obverse (face, cap, hair, etc) and a crack on the cap as well.

Also, The coin is in EF+ to AU and should I have a "pro" try and restore / soak this coin to get the grime / contamination may be / dirt out?

For an O mint the strike is pretty strong.

Clashed coins can be more or less prominent, depending on how many have been struck since the clash first happened. The clashing gets weaker as strikes progress, of course, so the lack of every_single_clash listed for this coin isn't a dealbreaker. 38A has a couple of pretty unique die breaks; I think the one through the N in ONE is the killer pickup. If your coin has that break, in conjunction with the one through the D, wing and S, 38A is a safe attribution. Look for the obverse break at the first right star which, if present, would make it 38B.

No. It isn't hugely valuable in EF/AU, and chances are any sort of cleaning would leave an unnatural contrast between areas where the grime was removed and places which had no grime originally. Leave it as-is as long as there's no PVC contamination.

Got around to taking some pics of this one now that I have somewhat figured out how to use the camera for coins.

All good advice given above. I would only add that a dip in acetone or ammonia wouldn't hurt anything, and it might help clean it up a bit. Of course the use of acetone needs to come with the usual safety precautions, read the container. If you do this, always thoroughly rinse with distilled water, and never, ever rub the coin to "help" the process or dry the coin.
