What would this fall under, die brake or Cud? Is this common for the series? On a normal nickel I could guess what the premium would be but on this series I have no idea how 'large' of an error this is and what the premium would be. Any input would be great! Thank you for looking! -Kurt

I agree a nice die break. A Cud involves the rim of the coin.

Just so you know for the future, a Cud specifies that part of the die has broken completely away, which means that a Cud always involves the edge of the design. Since the edge of the design at the rim is completely intact on your coin, it is not a Cud.

copper,

could it be possible that part of the die broke off in the middle of the coin and cause a Cud there?

Adam,

That is just what I was thinking. I could see a circular die break where the center piece fell out (making the die look somewhat like a doughnut).

What would that be called?

I would refer to this as a series of die chips.

I would like the coins after this one which very well may have turned to Cud coins. WOLF

I also have a 2005 Ocean View with this break but is just above the "Five" at the bottom. Mine seems to be identical at this spot though.Small world.

They must have been really sloppy with this variety of nickel because I have found a couple other errors just by checking my loose change. I have a 2005 D with a doubled rock under small tree,2005 P with a clash through "ty" on Liberty, and a diagonal die mark at top right of small tree on a 2005 P. I haven't researched extensively on these but there doesn't seem to be a lot of pricing information available. Where do I look? I'm pretty new to collecting.

I got about $3 in the auction of this coin. That was more then I thought I would get. Cant tell you where to find pricing but the bigger the break the better.
