I've got a couple of peg leg Ike dollars. Are they just a novelty variety or do they have some premium value

This is about as far away as Lincoln cents I can ever stray, but I do believe I remember seeing that there is some premium value for these. Have you ever considered checking through ebay history to see what you can find? You have to have an account and have to be signed in, but it can prove to be a valuable tool.

Thanks Chuck fo coming out of your comfort zone to post an answer to my question. I'm surprised I didn't think about your suggestion. Anyway, I searched ebay. There are some slabbed peg leg Ikes at big bucks. The only sold listing I found showed 3 circulated ones sold for $7.50. No big deal. There's my answer.

Check out this web site for any info on peg legs etc.

www.theikegroup.org

The big one regarding premium value is the 1971S "BLUE IKE" Business Strike Peg Leg.

Others have value- I've sold RAW 72D ,77D, & 74 D "Major Peg LEG" for a few bucks and have others up right now, but its not for real big bucks etc.

As far as non-peg leg Ike's, the 1972P Type 2 High Relief aka "King of the Ike's" commands a nice premium in any grade.

For the non-IKE aficionado, can someone explain or post pictures or links to what a Ped leg is and where it is found, on what dates and how it differs from the normal case?

Ok, many thanks to numismo for posting this. I go to my Ikes' (have 5) and among three 1972-S Proof Ikes, I find one with a peg leg "R", what appears to be an abraded "E" in Liberty with the lower portion of the vertical bar in the "E" thinning heavily towards the bottom, and beyond that it is a doubled die on the motto "In God We Trust". I didn't have time for pictures, and will try to get some up tomorrow. Has anyone ever heard of this variety? I'll make it a new topic if I get the pics done. Comments anyone?
