If you were to buy some ATB quartersfrom the US Mint, would you prefer the 2 roll set of the 100 quarter bags? Second question, as a collector, would you keep the coins in their original US mint packaging and box? Thanks for your feedback. Laimbeer4452

I, like so many others, will buy an Uncirculated Set to break open for my albums, and then another one to keep whole and intact. I do the same with the Proof Sets and the Silver Proof Sets. As far as the ATB series specifically........I will not be buying the "bags" OR the "two roll sets". Doing either, or both of these, just isn't where I want to throw any money at. And it WILL TAKE A LOT OF MONEY TO BUY ELEVEN YEARS OF THESE TWO ROLL SETS ! There are a lot of other reasons too, but, this is the main one. I think there will be MANY collectors who "start out" buying these bags and two roll sets.......they'll get about halfway through....like 5 or 6 years, and realize just how much money this is costing them....and what the real "investment return on their money" will ACTUALLY be, and they'll just drop out of that. They'll discontinue doing this, when they realize a few things here. But listen, I don't begrudge ANYBODY who IS doing this...... because I wish I had the money to do it too......but I don't ! So, I just have to be more selective where I throw money at in this hobby of ours !

I subscribed for the circulating coin set. It's a bit cheaper than the uncirculated set. Funny thing though, it says shipped on the 9th, my card hasn't been charged, and the dollar amount on the Mint's website says -0-. Obviously I haven't received it yet and am starting to wonder if I will.

I buy the two roll sets. I fear that the bags will have too many bag marks on the coins. In 11 years I plan on having some fun searching the rolls, selling the rolls that have a high premium, and selling full sets of the series to try and offset the cost of the nice set I keep for myself.

You'll get it, what you describe is what subscriptions that haven't been filled yet typically shows.

honestly I would not purchase any of the two roll sets from the mint. A lot of people here end up finding them at banks and do trades at face. I think if I was going to tie up $164.75 for the next 11 years I would just save it and buy a nice gold piece or something

That should be $164.75 per year (and the last year will have 6 instead of 5) - or $1,845.20 Plus shipping of $4.95 x 56 = $277.20
You'll be tying up $2,122.40

I am new to collecting and I initially subscribed to the "2-roll sets" of ATB Quarters. I ended up breaking a roll open and I was unhappy with the quality. They were marred by bag marks, it was hard to find a good example from each mint. I canceled my subscription. Since that time I have seen Hot Springs in the wild. I say find a good coin shop near you and buy them that way, or trade. The only thing I buy directly from the mint now are UNC, Proof, & Silver Proof sets.

My shot at this.. keep the mint products in original packaging. If you get a winner, it will sell for more. In the long run original packaging tends to bring more payback. Then go to a coin shop or coin show and find a nice example for your set. You will have a nicer set because you "cherrypicked" the nice coins.

Would'nt getting the bags garner a higher chance of finding errors while the rolls will have better looking coins? WOLF

I just bought a 09 District/Territories Silver Proof Set and 3 ATB Silver Proof Sets. Don't care much for clad's, I can buy those later on if I really want to expand my collection in that direction. For now I will be happy buying the silver sets each year.

Quote: Would'nt getting the bags garner a higher chance of finding errors while the rolls will have better looking coins? Yes on the bags, but the chance of getting significant errors is so slight it doesn't justify paying the premium they want for the bags. And no on the rolls. The Mint rolls have no "better" chance of better looking coins than rolls you get at the bank for face value.
