The rubbing on the horizontal portion of the shield does detract a bit for an otherwise appealing look. I have no clue on what the double strike date would do value-wise of the coin, but overall I would give it a VF with details. I would think $40 might be a fair asking price. If that is not a scratch on the reverse, I suggest it could be a die strike from an unrelated die to the five cent variety. It definitely looks like a clashed die to me. THe overdate is very apparent and that is what I really like. I did not find and RPD for this date in the current Red Book. If it's genuine, it could be a new variety. Then there is always the possibility that it could be not genuine (i.e. counterfeit). Why they would do that with a nickel I don't know. Anyway back to the discussion, a genuine U.S. coin, I would think that $20-25 would be a good buy. IMO good luck Report this Post to the Staff
