i recently decided to try to complete the entire Jefferson nickel set entirely from roll searching. I have never actually roll searched boxes of nickels. so far this is proving fun, and quite interesting. I started aug 1. I have completed 3 boxes. it looks like I will probably be doing about 1 box per week - pace. there are 164 total coins to fill all three whitman folders, (including 2010P & D). after the first box, I had 50 holes remaining to fill. after the second box, I had 39 holse left to fill. after the 3rd box, I now have 19 holes left to fill. (one of which is the 2010D). in addition to the nickels I found foreign coins from 9 different countries, (including canada). I'm sure this project is not anything new, or anything that has not been accomplished, by may people here, but it just seems fun. just sharing. thanks.

Good luck, there are a few tricky ones out there that might keep you looking for a while, namely the 1950D and some of the War Nickels, and possibly the 2009D, but it should be doable.

i have already gotten the 2009 P & D, and three War Nickels. I also have the 38P and 39P. I dont think I have EVER gotten a 50D, without buying it outright.

Great fun ...... you are embarking on a journey that many of us have taken as well. Wonder why you posted this in the 'error/variety' forum. Anyways ..... pop into the main US Modern Coins forum and check out the nickel roll searching thread ...... we would enjoy your company there and updates as you progress. BTW ..... I have the same goal ..... a complete circulation strike Jefferson set from bank rolls .... and am missing just two coins (that's the good news) ..... and have searched $10,080 face value in nickels ...... soooooo ... I hope you have some patience for the quest. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you. David

I've gone though $2912 worth of nickels and have 8 holes left (all 1950 and below) - I will complete the entire series :)
If you're afraid you might become obsessed and feel that that is a problem, quit now! You've been warned!

It's possible. I've done it myself. I just finished the whole set (1938-2009) in the beginning of this year. I also finished 2nd set of 1938-61. It's a lot of fun. Good luck!

Good luck with that...I'm about a month away from a year in and about 100,000 coins in and am missing just one - the 1955. After I find that one I'll likely take a break from nickels for awhile, but it has been a very fun adventure as well as very educational in picking up the finer points of the series, and of grading them. Enjoy our humble nickel!

Uh-oh...someone else has caught the disease! I echo Nickelsearcher; keep us posted of your results in the nickel roll searching thread and let us know how you are doing. I started that thread, and a number of folks are doing the same thing now. I am going through 25,000 rolls (500 boxes) and have completed one set. Need three 1950d's to make three more sets. Just last night found a 1946d over horizontal d, so there are great varieties to be found too! Good luck and enjoy the quest!

I did that same thing a long, long time ago. Completely filled 6 Whitman Albums all at the same time and really easily. Of course that was a long time ago. I used to buy bags of pennies and/or nickels from a really old bank. Used to find all sorts of stuff at that place then they got bought out by Bank of America and poof, everything changed. Was fun while it lasted.

Wow I didn't think the 1950-D's were findable, but it seems that people here have done it! Has anyone found one recently, or mostly in a previous decade. I'd like a few if you find any

I completed my set of shield cents from circulation just the other day. I think maybe that was easier.

I have just started the same project, but I have only gone through about 40$ worth so far. Still many holes to fill.
