I recently bought several coins in NGC and PCGS slabs. They all graded ms64,ms65. When I showed them to my friends they thought that two had been cleaned and maybe in counterfeit slabs. I was able to check the PCGS slabs for authenticity on line, but the NGC slabs I could not check because of membership. I called and was told that NGC does not guarantee authenticity except to the original sender. Why buy TPC coins if they are not sold by the original sender and how will you know if you can not check it on line. With no guarantee any way why use the service. Sorry just ventilating my frustrations.

I think you misunderstood the answer. If you have a genuine NGC slab, then their guarantee that the coin encased in it is authentic is "in force" as long as the slab has not been tampered with.

NGC offers a free membership that will allow you to check cert numbers. Sign up for it and check the numbers. At least then you'll the number is valid but cert numbers can be duplicated of course.

What type of coins are these? Where did you buy them? Can you post some images?

the bad thing about looking up certification numbers is that the counterfeiters have learned this and they usually use good certification numbers that they found on an online auction site so when you check it shows as an authentic serial number even though the slab/label and even possibly the coin is fake. If you could post pictures of your coins we may be able to help you determine authenticity of the slabs and coins. If you have problems uploading any pictures just respond in this thread that you need help and either I or someone else will help you either by walking you through the process or just emailing you through the forum and then you just attaching the pictures to a reply to their email with what ever email server you use. usually the problem people have is the size of the picture and some people do not know how to reduce the size so it can be uploaded on the forum. Anyway if you could get some pics we will be happy to try and help you any way possible. If its a fake slab NGC/PCGS will do nothing and you will have to try and get your money back from the seller or if you purchased from eBay/paypal maybe they can get you a refund if the seller refuses

I think you must have misunderstood what NGC said. If they are operating the same way as PCGS then they do guarantee authenticity (of the coin) EXCEPT to the original submitter.

And their authenticity guarantees are much better now than they used to be. Until about four years ago they had no written guarantee of authenticity. They had a written guarantee for grading but not authenticity.

Is this a recent problem or business practice? I've had no problems in the past authenicating slabs at NGC, PCGS, or IGC. I've only checked maybe 20, but I've had no problems.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to obtain a free membership with NGC and check the coins I bought. I also found out that if the slab has not been tampered with or opened NGC stands by its grading on the slab. The only issue I really had was if the they were counterfeit slabs. The help and information provided by this forum is appreciated. THANKS
