Yeah the damage stinks but I think I can turn it for a profit. Is it worth getting NGC to authenticate it?

Definitely. Are you knowledgeable enough about this type to tell whether its genuine on your own?

Did this coin walk in or roll in ?
Nice piece, it's a shame the front has damage , otherwise it's
a sweet coin !

It sure looks authentic and also a good candidate for NCS. Those surfaces will need some conservation before slabbing.
Any U.S. coin with a 17xx date is great to see. Thanks for sharing.

F details. I think the best you could do is get it to NCS for conservation and slabbing. Needs NCS to remove that stuff (whatever it is) on the reverse. I'm guessing that the coin does not have a seam on the edge, since it appears original in all regards except the pictures seem to show a seam at 6:00 on the obverse and 12:00 on the reverse. That must be the photography, right? Keep us posted.

Appears authentic. I'm thinking that may not be damage but rather, a planchet flaw. F12

I'm in agreement with vermontensium - planchet flaw rather than damage. As to whether to slab or not, consider: It's a B-5 variety; the die chip between the "IC" is a smoking-gun pickup. A Details-graded NGC example (rim nicks) whose visual grade was 3-5 points lower than yours sold for $2300 earlier this year.
Your coin, to me, might be Original Surfaces. Get it into a PCGS Fine slab and you're looking at close to $4000. I'd consider it imperative to get this one into plastic, and would recommend Heritage or similar if you choose to liquidate. This is a big-money coin.

bad planchett is what I was thinking, too... I guess I'm learning! =) to back up Dave, heritage is definitely the place for this one; I've noticed prices down still on even pcgs early dollars in other places - or you could just hold on to it. If you get tired, I can hold it for a while for you! :D <- trying to be helpful, I swear

I'm with Super on consigning to Heritage. Best way to realize maximum profit potential with a serious coin buying audience.
