Okay, I found a song with a reference to a coin that I thought was pretty cool. I searched the archives and found that there were two similar threads on this topic: one from 2006 and the other from 2005 and since both threads were locked, I decided to do this again for my song reference . Feel free to add to this! Salt Water - Melanie DoaneOh, Bluenose has sailed away leaving me behind and all I have to hold on to is the silver silhouette on a dimeEdited since this forum does not apparently accept ASCII symbols :) Edited by chequer 08/31/2010 4:35 pm

Very interesting...I did not realize that there were songs referencing coins...kinda cool...
I can only image what the song would be like for the Peanuts Coin...

There was a song called "26 cents" by the Wilkinsons that hit #1 in 1998. Of course Joan Jett & the Blackhearts had the song "I love Rock n' roll" that features a line "put another dime in the jukebox baby"

Two pop right into mind.
The Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider
Well, I've got to run to keep from hidin', And I'm bound to keep on ridin'. And I've got one more silver dollar, But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no, Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.
John Prine - Grandpa was a carpenter
Grandpa wore his suit to dinner Nearly every day No particular reason He just dressed that way Brown necktie and a matching vest And both his wingtip shoes He built a closet on our back porch And put a penny in a burned out fuse.
and another couple
Emmylou Harris - Queen Of The Silver Dollar
Yes I'm the Queen of the Silver Dollar I rule this smokey kingdom Scepter is a wine glass and a bar stool is my throne Now the jesters flock around me tryin' to win my favors To see which one will take the Queen of the Silver Dollar home
Terry Fell and also done by New Riders of the Purple Sage - Truck Drivin' Man
Pour me another cup of coffee For it is the best in the land And put a nickel in the jukebox And play the Truck Drivin' Man

"Pennies from heaven" is an old timer classic. Pink Floyd's "Money" has got to be the best!

Not really a coin reference, but: "And I bought you this coin, it says 'Number One Dad' "That's all I wanted, I just want to give you this coin" From When I'm Gone by Eminem. Reached #8 and is written by one of the greatest artists ever. (In my opinion. )

A lateral plane yet not completely off topic, but that Travis Tritt song has such an attitude it made me think of Uncle Buck. I love that movie!
Buck Russell: I don't think I want to know a six-year-old who isn't a dreamer, or a sillyheart. And I sure don't want to know one who takes their student career seriously. I don't have a college degree. I don't even have a job. But I know a good kid when I see one. Because they're ALL good kids, until dried-out, brain-dead skags like you drag them down and convince them they're no good. You so much as scowl at my niece, or any other kid in this school, and I hear about it, and I'm coming looking for you! [of Anita's mole] Buck Russell: Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face! Good day to you, madam.

I was just about to say what ever happened to one of the most famous money songs ever. Pennies from Heaven. Penny Lover - Lionel Richie Penny for a thought - Saul Williams Penny on the Floor - The Clasrk Penny Lane - The Beatles Penny Serenade - ? And remember the Beach Boys? Giddy Up 409 where they say "Well I saved um Pennies and I saved my Dimes" See! NO one calls those things CENTS.

THE GREATEST ROCK 'N ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD
THE ROLLING STONES
HAPPY
PERFORMED BY KEITH RICHARDS
Well I never kept a dollar past sunset, It always burned a hole in my pants. Never made a school mama happy, Never blew a second chance, oh no
I need a love to keep me happy, I need a love to keep me happy. Baby, baby keep me happy. Baby, baby keep me happy.
Always took candy from strangers, Didn't wanna get me no trade. Never want to be like papa, Working for the boss ev'ry night and day.
I need a love to keep me happy, I need a love, baby won't ya keep me happy. Baby, won't ya keep me happy. Baby, please keep me
I need a love to keep me happy, I need a love to keep me happy. Baby, baby keep me happy. Baby, baby keep me happy.
Never got a flash out of cocktails, When I got some flesh off the bone. Never got a lift out of Lear jets, When I can fly way back home.
I need a love to keep me happy, I need a love to keep me happy. Baby, baby keep me happy. Baby, baby keep me happy

how's about the Georgia Sattelites? "I got a little change in my pocket, goin jing-a-ling-a-ling..."
or the absolutely classic Dr Hook song Sylvia's mother-- "And the operator says forty cents more for the next three minutes"
OR... Louis Armstrong sang one called St James Infirmary... it was a dirge, with the lyrics going "when I die, bury me in straight-laced shoes... and a box-back coat, double-breasted... and put a twenty dollar gold piece on my watch chain, so the boys will know I died standing fair."
(the last one is far and away ma favorite!)
