I'd guess EF40 and possibly an old cleaning. Could be wrong but the fields just look lighter compared to the edges of devices.

It's defiantly in the VF-EF area. Nice coin!

EF-40. Very nice key date coin. The old cleaning on the obverse is possible but its minor impairment at worst.

I agree with an appealing 40.
for a value? hmm...You were thinking VG-VF originally, I am not familiar with prices for this one but the price spread from your predicted grade range and XF is pretty big on Numismedia. I would say you hit a home run if you paid even VF prices for this.

Quote: ...About 270$-well under Numismedia value... That is a very attractive Seated Liberty quarter and $270USD sounds like a fair price. EF40 would be my grade also. Be careful using Numismedia pricing though, regard it as "Full Retail Pricing".

Worth considerably more than $270 most likely, numismedia is often too low on 'scarce' dates.

The reason I let him know is Greysheet Bid in VF is $135 and $200 in EF. PCGS Retail at XF40 is $290. Certified AU pieces can run $500.

Agreed with EF-40 and that is a marvelous looking coin. I love the dark toning, although I personally wouldn't have paid that much for it. Good find though!

PCGS Retail at XF40 is $290. Certified AU pieces can run $500. Greysheet and even PCGS price guide can be too low on the scarcer lesser seen coins as well. Numismedia is okay for retail on typical coins but can be considered a little high on most common dates in mid-high condition, PCGS is way high for common dates and 'common key dates' (1916-D dime). I saw a PCGS VF-30 go for $330 on ebay a week ago. As for greysheet, I had my dealer tell me that a classic head cent in XF greysheeted for only about...$700 or something? I told him that greysheet didn't always reflect the market and that I'd love to get my hands on one for that much, but it would never happen. Generally numismedia is better IMO than PCGS, but both are hit or miss. Seems like PCGS price guide is pretty inflated in general to me.

Thanks for opinions guys I don't think I overpaid.Price is always agreement between buyer and seller.I browsed auction archives trying to find similar grade but I end up with nothing.About catalogue value-I always consider their prices as guideline not as a rock solid value.I could give a lot of different examples of underestimated and overestimated coins.I'm about to start new thread about 1809 half cent-any opinions welcome and appreciated.

I think $270 is a pretty good deal for you.
