Some of you know of my good fortune on finding both the 98 and 99 Proof CLAM's. I have decided to send them to NGC because they will label them that way. They want me to open up the Proof set and send in the coin out of the case. So, my question is what is some of the ways you all have sent in valuable coins? I am quite nervous about damaging said coins even by just opening the cases - should I be?

I can think of a few ways to send them in but sure would like some confidence on any decision I make. If you have any "never send it this way" comments that may help also.

Just don't want any damage

Peace
Brent

I suggest you cover a work surface with a soft cloth. Use a knife blade to carefully split the proof set case so the coins drop out. Use cotton gloves to handle the coins and be very careful not to breathe on them. Even a tiny amount of moisture from breath can cause spotting on cents. Put each coin in a soft plastic bag (mini Ziploc bags work well) and put each bag in a Mylar flip.

These precautions will keep your valuable proofs pristine. Good luck, and please post the results of your submission!

I agree with Jaobler and hold your breath and don't cough or sneeze whatever you do! Be afraid, be very afraid. Good luck with the submissions :-)

What would they be worth and what are the condition of the other coins in the sets? Because if you are willing to have all the coins slabbed you can just send them in in the original government holders.

If you go to a show where PCGS has a table you could crack it right there and give them to them so you don't have to worry about damage in shipping.

Since they are proofs, then there is no need to send them in the mint holder, a proof is a proof. If you were submitting a coin for other designations such as 1st day of issue or "First Strike" then that would require a specific method of submission.

Your best bet is as every one states, submit them in individual mylar flips and handle with clean cotton gloves and avoid touching the surfaces if possible (this is where coin tongs are useful).

I submit coins to both NGC and PCGS and have always sent them in this manner.
