I seen an article a few days and got me thinking about my Roosevelt types; NGC has Full Torch (FT) and PCGS has Full Bands (FB) like Mercury dimes, I'm not sure if ANACS has a designator. Which one of the TPG is tougher on Roosevelt's? Do you have a preference over the other? I am familiar with the saying "buy the coin, not the holder", but I like to show off my collection to anybody who shows interest, which usually brings up the "plastic coffin" concept that it resides in.

I have a silver type NGC 51-D MS-66 FT that nicer than my clad type 96-W MS-68 PCGS, perhaps because it's silver.

Thanks!

NGC requires the upper and lower bands as well as the vertical lines to be split without major interruptions like a large bagmark. I am not sure of the PCGS requirements for Roosies but I do know that PCGS is more lax than NGC on FBL Franklins, PCGS uses the lower bell lines while NGC uses upper and lower. A similar difference may occur for the Roosevelt series as well but I am not sure. Another forum member, Erwindoc, is a Roosevelt aficionado so he can probably answer the question a bit more clearly.

I think out of them all NCG or PCGS would be the toughest

I have read here on this forum that some top tier graders can often give a full bands designation when the coin actually doesn't qualify for the designation in hard core Roosevelt collectors minds. Don't know what this means except to reinforce your, buy the coin, not the holder comment.

Yes I would only buy the coin not the holder on any graded TPG coin
