Now as I am new to the forum and have only been collecting as a hobby I now have the opportunity to purchase a 1923 halfpenny as an investment..would greatly appreciate all the learned information that I know is available from people here as to what they think of this coin..fake or fair dinkum..grading etc..hopefully susan will upload the pics as I am a little backward in this dept.(too old I guess but am still trying)

Actually, Minky uploaded the pics.

I hope you don't mind, but I changed it so that the images would show up right in the post rather than clicking on a link. I find it makes it easier for grading and stuff like that. If you want to see how I did it, just click on the edit icon and take a look at the text.

The site, unfortunately isn't mine. It belongs a gentleman by the name of Peter , who has a sound knowledge of coins here in Oz.

looks like a nice piece to me but would like a better view of the crown or even a bigger image. Looks around the fine grade and would retail for around the $2500 mark. If you like you can email me to talk to me about it. If you live in Aussie land even give me a ring.

Minky, I would advise you to not part with any of the hard-earned until you've been able to have a close look at the coin in person. The image isn't as clear as we'd like but I have two points of concern:

1) The shape of the base of the 2 appears different from that of a 1923 (need a better picture though!)

2) The left hand side of the 2 appears to start just after a rim denticle. On a genuine 1923 it starts just before a denticle. Again need a better scan to be absolutley certain.
