I need some input folks. Currently, I am finishing my modern circulated sets (rosie, wash, jefferson, lincoln, sacs, ikes)and I suspect that will be complete in the next two weeks. What set or sets should I work on next? I can afford about $100/month to put towards coins. I'm not looking for BU or AU sets....its nowhere near my budget. What I am looking for is F-VG grade coins. Liberty Vs, SLQ, IHC's...what you think? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

Go with your heart! Or what looks the coolest to you. Or choose IHCs because I like how those look.

I know it's more than you're looking to spend but at that grade you can go with:
wait for it...
Morgan dollars!
You won't regret it!

Moe, I actually bought my first two non-key certified morgans (1879 and 81-S) a few months ago and there are no regrets! I walked into a coin shop expecting to finish my Franklin halves and walked out with those two beauties. So to reply to your statement.....I am strongly thinking about it!

Merc dimes might be a nice set to do next. Attractive coin, not too pricy, readily available (for the most part).

If you do the mercs you might want to leave out the 1916D (or at least save that for last :)
Other than that I think only the 1921 and 1921D are the only other coins that are slightly more difficult to get

go sort through your dealer's junk silver and put together a circulated mercury set for melt value.

How about the second-most-hated set...3CN?

That would be a real challenge. I have been looking for a business strike 1883 for about 1.5 years with no luck at all, and that isn't even the rarest one.

I have thought about doing mercs or SLQ's in the past. A couple of my regular coin shops have a good supply of merc and SLQ junk silver. I may move forward with those.....and pick up a morgan every now and then. Thanks for your posts!

I vote for Walking Liberty halves, All but a few can be purchased at near melt in the vf-xf range. Plus its one of the most beautiful designs ever.

I saw one up on ebay the other day, but overpriced. Maybe you could make him an offer? I'll go with SLQ's or 3CN

Walker's are one of the best (if not best) type of coin to collect. My favorite is halves. I have all the way back to 1935 and am working on getting others. Have fun with whatever you chose.
