Does anyone know why these are selling for 2.5 to 3 times face here in the USA and other countries for un circulated notes. I have more of these and not sure how I want to proceed. (Buy more or sell some).

Also are these still available in the UK at face value for CHCU / Un circulated notes?

Circulated ones are going above face getting closer 1.5X.

Thanks

Yes, Ceylon they're availible in the UK from times to times, from banks or even at your local grocery change. I have found all of my CU UK notes in circulation but sometimes they have very small nicks and dents that are barely visible but reducing the condition in speaking of professional terms.

The £5 is especially common in high grades in circulation as they are issued regularly as the turnover of these notes is high, I get them in change often. I had no idea they could fetch up to 3 x face in the US!

Jeff -- a few questions.

When you go into a bank can you get chcu notes in sequential order?

Is the 5 the most common to find? (Based on your comments).

What about the 10 and 20 in chcu?

Pardon me for all the questions I am just trying to sort out which ones I want to focus on for my collection technically from a value appreciation perspective as at some point I hope to sell the dupes to recoup some of the cost.

Molydeii, sometimes I can find high grade notes with what you speak of (barely visible flaws) but on recent issues I am solely focused on collecting chcu notes in sequential order and have sold off most of my high grade recent issue AU's and moved into chcu's. I have done this with my canadian $'s as well.

Thanks

I find the £5 the most common to find. A while back there was a large re-issue of the £10 and £20 I Remember, and there were large numbers of uncirculated notes to be had then.

As for getting the notes in sequential order - I have not done it myself, but I have heard of others doing it. In fact I once heard a story from a dealer I know of a woman who used to go and get £500 in 10 x sequential £50 notes at face, and make a decent mark up on them within a couple of days. That story was some years old however.

Next time I go to the bank, I may make some enquiries. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Let me know what you find. Thanks

Here in the states what is happening around my area is that a majority of the chcu 5, 10 and 20's end up in ATM's and automated self service checkout cash dispensers at the grocery stores.

Funny you mention the 50 as that has the least amount of premium from my research so far. It very well could be most are collecting the smaller denominations.

Do the current US notes carry a big premium in the UK?
