I just ordered the Top 100 VAM Book 1997 edition signed by Michael Fey.Is that a good starter Bryan?

sure, I do not have that book because I am not really interested in all dates of VAM's unless I just happen to run across them at good prices or see something different. I am interested mainly in 1878 Morgans VAMs
right now and have all the books pertaining to them like the 7/8 attribution guide, the 8tf attribution guide, The encyclopedia of morgan & Peace dollars, and I even got the Super elite clashed die book because it had a few descriptions of some 1878's that no other book had in them. But I think the TOP 100 VAM book would be a great addition for someone that is searching through coins and hoping to find a TOP 100 coin unattributed or something. I will probably start collecting HOT 50 and TOP 100 coins when I finish the 200+ 1878 VAM's (which will be a few years at least). I think you have already said you have the VAM book by Van Allen and Mallis and the other books just go into a little better depth of the attributes than that book does because it specializes on certain coins and not "every" Morgan like the VAM book does. I kind of wish I had started on a different date because the 1878 is an expensive VAM set to try and complete especially in higher uncirculated grades like I collect

It's ok. I have one (and a bunch of other VAM books).

You might want to check this site out that is under construction as a help to look at Top-100, Hot-50, and other VAMs.

Yep, them 78's can be expensive. I have my sights on a 1878 PCGS MS64 7TF 3rd reverse right now.Everybody needs one,right?
