Do they make this coin more valuable? Unfortunately it has quite a bit of old verdigris (mostly turned dark) on the reverse but its not that bad at a glance.
I'd call the coin XF and its nowhere NEAR as scuffed up as it looks to be in the photos. Besides the verdigris issue (worse than the photos) its a very nice coin. How much would you value this? I'd kind of call this a careless buy but I think I at least got my money's worth. Was hoping for a $300+ coin but I kind of doubt more than $225
That's an interesting coin for those die cracks on both dies. The early 1870s were known for problems with the steel used in die-making with more cracks than other decades. Snow doesn't list cracks as varieties other than markers. I'd say XF details, but net VF20
I wouldn't go that high. The obv might have XF-40 sharpness but the reverse isn't that good and with all the beating this coin has taken I'd be looking more at F-12 Net
I'd say it's a white elephant; yes the die crack is rare, but it probably doesn't add to the value, and I think the above comments sufficiently covered the issue of the grade (I specifically agree with Conder here).
