XF40 would be my opinion. However, the wear on the tips of the feathers always throws me, so I don't know if there is enough wear there to bring it down a grade.

EF/XF40 sounds fair. I could see a liberal grader going EF45 and a conservative grader going VF35.

I would grade it at VF-35 due to the wear on the reverve leaves.

EF 40 is the best it will do...IMO. Nice coin, but the wear on the reverse will bring it down. Could bring it down to VF, but I'll stick with EF40.
Rest in Peace

I was going to say VF35, but after reading other comments and looking again I could see it possibly going EF40.

Sometimes the feathers don't strike up that well. It's a common place for grime to settle in the die.
By Snow's grading, the ribbon/hair separation is the determinant for EF. I think lack of reverse detail is strike or grime.
The CuNi cents were harder to strike up. I'd say EF40. The date/devices look a little too clean.

Nice EF-40 coin Mr. wheezy!

Just to be correct: The 1859 IHC had a Laurel Wreath reverse (with no shield at the top between the wreath ends). The 1860 IHC started the Oak Wreath (with shield at the top between the wreath tips)) reverse.

(Just trying to help...)

Right you are Moe, I had a senor moment there, I think I knew that but I will deliberately let it stay like that so others know the diff too. Thanks.
I also have hidden my guess on the grade in the first post if you "select all" it will appear under the images.
I guess I am safely conservative.

Everyone likes XF but me, however, I'll take XF40 and add it to my gallery. Also, I will change it to Laurel Leaves. LOL! Thanks all!
