My first thought was struck-through grease, or maybe a faulty planchet, since the effect ends where the rim is upset.

On another forum the consensus was "struck thru hardened grease". Sounds logical to me.

Looks like Struck Through Grease to me. I do not think this is lamination or a planchet problem.

If it was Struck Through Grease, shouldn't the L be clogged as well or at least weakened?
