I have my eye on a coin graded/attributed by ICG.

I'm not concerned about the grade ..... I can judge that myself. This coin is widely counterfeited and I'm not sure I can determine all the proper markers of a genuine one.

Soooo .... what do we know about ICG? Are they a basement slabber or can I trust their attribution skills?

Any and all input is appreciated.

David

ICG is a trusted firm. Some ANACS graders actually work for them now. I usually stick with PCGS or ANACS. What's the coin?

I like ICG for 2 Cents as they are spot on on the grades and do not market grade like PCGS and NGC.

Many Thanks for the replies .....

What's the coin?

It's a 1900 Lafayette Dollar in F15 grade ...... currently available on E-Pray and would make a nice addition to my growing collection of circulated Classic US Commemorative.

There are plenty of fake Lafayette $ out there ..... hence my need as a relative newbie to trust in a certification firm at this point in my development of knowledge.

Thanks again ... please take a look at the listing ..... see anything funny? .... hoping you do not bid against me on this one.

I don't know why ICG gets such a bad wrap. I do believe they are considered in the top 4 TPG's, obviously most people would rank them behind PCGS, NGC, Anacs, in that order. I have had very good experiences with them. They are local for me as I live in the Tampa area. Also, they always run a great 2 day dollar special for $12. Also, I have spoken to Randy Campbell who is their senior grader at sevral shows. He also runs the FUN show .....Needless to say I like ICG

Not making a comment on ICG, but I'd be careful about that coin in particular - or about any coin showing just one side. And the one side that is shown is pretty low-res. The 20 feedback of the seller also fails to inspire confidence.
