I like to buy from Heritage Auations because I seem to get a larger selection there. I collect slabbed coins and thats all you find there. You have to be careful and be sure to include the buyers premium or you will end up paying to much. Let me know your thoughts on Heritage. I recently purchased a 1874 NGC AU-58 seated liberty for my type set. As soon as I get it I will post it to share. Take a look at My Gallery and tell me what you think of my type set, I'm quite proud of it.

I have purchased quite a few coins from heritage through out the few years I have collected. I like them for the same reasons you mentioned, they have a good selection and I can usually find what I am looking for and if not sooner or later they will have something I need

I agree. Their data base of "prices realized at auction" is a helpful tool. I have bought and sold through Heritage, and found the firm very professional.
Rest in Peace

So if the greysheet price is 100.00 and the buyers premium is 15.00 do you just bid 85.00?

Can someone explain a little more how Heritage works? I see items up for Internet/Mail bid, but then they also have live floor auctions. Are you wasting your time bidding by Internet if there's going to be a live auction anyway?

What's the best way to bid and win on Heritage?

@wornslick good luck getting anything for less than greysheet from Heritage. Their niche isn't wholesale, it's desirable high-value coins.

@KenKat Best way to bid and win is to bid more than anyone else. Yeah, that sounds like a stupid answer, but if you're looking for a way to game the system, forget it. Unless you're looking for stuff that's really not in demand, any given item will have enough of a following that you're not likely to win for way below what it's worth. As far as bidding when there's also a floor auction, no, it's not pointless, you just have more competition bidding against you (and competition that has a huge advantage on you - they were able to view the coins in person).

With all that said, although I've followed a few of their auctions, I've not bid. Most of their stuff is way out of my price range for one, and for two, they're in Texas, which means having to pay sales tax, which would immediately put me at an 8% disadvantage to other bidders.

heritage has internet only and internet coupled with live auctions and all different kinds of auctions. If its a internet and live auction they will have it on their site for about a month where you can bid on line and then the day before the auction internet bidding closes and the live auction happens. there is also a way you can follow live online and bid through that as well. If you bid on line (before the internet bidding is over) and no one at the live auction beats your internet bid then you win. The live bidders do not know your maximum bid, they just take bids and when there are no more bids the lot ends and then they announce if the buyer live has won or it went to a internet bidder. I know it sounds confusing but its really not. I actually just won another Morgan today that I bid on online and the live auction was today
