? http://cgi.ebay.com/STRIKE-ERROR-LI...em5adc56a29fquotes from the description "WE SELL AT SLIGHTLY OVER THE ACTUAL GOLD MELT VALUE, OR COINS." maybe a little too slightly? "BESIDES HAVING A HUGE INVENTORY, AND ALWAYS HAVING THE CHEEPEST PRICES" ? "THE ONLY WAY YOU COULD POSSIBLY GET BETTER PRICES ON COINS OR JEWELRY IS IF YOU FOUND THEM LAYING ON THE GROUND" "IF YOU WANT UNBEATABLE DEALS" this is unbeatable alright!

But it's on sale for 6% off!! And it was originally priced at $1,000,000 based on the writing on the 2x2! Luckily there's the big blue arrow on the 2x2 pointing out there error so you don't miss it.

Yes sure, right, what a bargain. Now what kind of person would put a so called $1,000,000 valued coin is a cheap cardboard 2 x2 and staple it closed.

OK, time for a little education for me. Do errors like this really happen? I'm not a US collector so my ignorance level is high. And if these do happen, what is a fair price for something like this.

yes, they do happen, but a fair price is about $5 or $6

Yes, it is a legitimate error coin, but the asking price is just a wee bit out of touch with reality. As I'm sure you can see, it was struck off center. I collect off-center Lincoln cents and they make a really neat looking collection. The ones with a legible date and mintmark command the most premium. Some dates are rarer than others. Some dates will sell for $5 or $10, some will sell for a whole lot more than that. The more off-center they are and still have a legible date and mintmark, the more desirable they are.
