Does anyone else find it annoying when we see ebay established coin sellers advertising "common date" coins as rare? After all some of the so called "rare coins" are even in pocket change and bargain bins..

Do these sometimes 100% feedback sellers think coin collectors are idiots, surely this would irritate coin collectors, and calling a near pocket change rare is no more then a lie in the descriptions.. my two pesos... any thought on this subject?

They are not targeting established coin collectors but coin collector newbies.

Rare is a common search term so put it in your title and you will get more hits on your auction.

Ok see the point but still beleive it's unethical, and more then likely ebay takes a dim view on missleading buyers.. j

What's the point in tricking newby's ? The worst thing a seller can do is loose the respect and trust of a collector. In the long run it hurts every buyer/seller on ebay, calling pocket change "rare" just seems crimminal.

"Rare" is somewhat subjective, but I agree... it bites. Worse is when they use terms I don't consider to be subjective like GEM BU and it's obviously a piece of unc junk. Saw one yesterday but can't bring it back up (someone may have pointed it out).

I agree, and given the commonness of "rare" in titles, I doubt anyone really takes it at face value.
