I took a picture at a different angle and it looks almost like the letter "W" or "M" too. you can see it goes into the "E" a little bit.
Thoughts on this?

Welcome to the forum,This Almost appears to be some die chips incused on the coins edge lettering? Just my opinion....Is the rest of the edge like this at all?

From the last image it looks like it could be a "D"?

There are a couple of nicks here and there along the edge and the lettering on the edge in not crisp.

Struck thru: Incuse die detail has broken free, and in this subsequent strike has lodged in the incuse die, leaving an incuse depth detail of the fragment. It would then presumably follow we will see a missing letter on an incuse detail of precisely this size.

So is this common or unusual on the edge?

Besides the face value on this circulated dollar, would there be a premium associated with this?
