I'm going to guess AU53 based on the photos. It's hard to tell but it also has a cleaned appearance. I could be wrong though.

I believe its an MS coin with that brassy planchet. The devices aren't as crisp on those and usually get beat up in the TPG's. I have a couple graded MS61 that would be 63 or 64 if reds. My guess MS62. nlp

I think your lighting is too strong, it make the surfaces look funky. It seems to be cutting through the patina. It makes grading this coin tough because there's a lot of these that were cleaned and retoned. I cannot tell if this coin falls into that category at all....the light makes it look that way, but it could be deceiving.
I'm going with AU-58, there looks to be a bit of wear on the beard (flat spot). The master dies were new in 1916 so this area is usually sharp and well-struck.

I'm going with AU55. Wheat kernels look to be rubbed as does the beard and upper coat area. It sure didn't circulate much though and I can see how somebody would say MS.

Thanks for all the input! For those of you who questioned the originality of the surface, y'all were spot on. This suckers definitely been cleaned or dipped at one point. Off to the window sill with it!

I would agree there appears to be some wear on the beard but I'd really need to see it up close. But, there appears to be no wear on the tips of the wheat lines. I'm stll going with uncirculated.

1893S, if there is wear then it can not be MS. it has to be AU

I said appears.... and I'm not seeing consistant wear on high points of the obverse or for that matter on the reverse...but it is a photo. I'd like to have in hand...

Window sill....good idea. Let it sit there for a year and it should look better. Don't forget to flip it over now and then.

Badthad, quick question. If a coin has been treated with Verdi-Care will it slow or subdue the toning process?

I can't tell if the flat spot on the beard is actually there or if it is a result of the camera. If it's not there, I would say MS, if it is, Choice AU
