A little embarrassed about the size of it. But what the heck, here it is anyway.

Nice find anyway. Is the opposite side affected under where the Cud is located. It may show or may not show as that area may fall in the field and not over a device on the reverse.

Are Cuds collectable or valuable?

Small ones like that are worth several dollars but the value increases dramatically with size, larger is better

That 1943 looks like a relative of the ones BadThad has been selling. What causes the other side to be weak?

The missing area on the opposite die (where the Cud is) doesn't put pressure/resistance on the opposite side of the coin, thus not forming that area of the opposite area of the die. Kind of like pushing you fingers together. Move one finger inward and press with the remaining ones. No resistance in that area. Thus the side opposite the Cud can be weak if the Cud is large enough.

Haven't been keeping THEM?

I have found ONE in over 1.5 million coins searched over 30 years. With that, I highly doubt the "them" you haven't been keeping are actually Cuds.

If there is a collection of metal that is all "in the field" is it still called a Cud?

Nope, that would just be common die chips and definitely not the same as a Cud. A Cud is a specific type of die break that affects the shank and face of a die, it will always start and end at the rim.

Congrats on your first MorgansRmine!

I didn't think they were THAT rare...I've found at least 10 of various sizes in the last few years.
