That's easy! Canadian coinage from:

1858-1967 (inc.)> "Classic"

1968-date> "junk"

Here's the best I can do

Coins
1¢ = Sous Noir (most commonly used in Quebec)
5¢ = Nickel...Because of the metal that was previously used to mint them
10¢ = Dime...Don't know why, but I think it's an American term
25¢ = Quarter...Because the value assessed is a quarter dollar
50¢ = Half dollar..same reasoning as quarter
$1 = Loonie...I think it's cause people thought it would be crazy to replace the paper dollar
$2 = Toonie...Because it's twice the value of a loonie

Bank Notes
25¢ = Shinpalster...Something to do with stuffing them into boots
$2 = Don't remember/Don't know if one exists
$5 = Don't remember/Don't know if one exists
$10 = Sawbuck...Honestly I ahve no idea why
$20 = Don't remember/Don't know if one exists
$50 = Don't remember/Don't know if one exists
$100 = C Note...don't know why
$1,000 = Pinky...Because of the colour of the note

I hope that helps....and hopefully someone can fill in the blanks.

Come to think of it the "C Note" probably refers to roman numerals C being 100.

All the "bits" from sections of old Spanish reals (which were recognized trade currency the world over) and then they minted them as coins as well .. they used to just be slices of the old reals. 2 Bits (25c) 4 bits (50c). Then there is the US term for 5 dollars from all the US movies and used up here ... a sawbuck (5 bucks). I still think that the $2 coin up here should have been named the "doubloonie", rather than twonie.

The old 5c were sometimes referred to as "fishscales", due to their thinness. The $2 coin, or "toonie" is sometimes referred to by punsters as "the Queen with a bear behind".

Loonie dollars, I always thought they're alled "Loonies" as a result of the "LOON" (bird) pictured on it.

That "Queen With a Bear Behind" is a new one on me

My Swedish stepdad, born 1903?/09? can't recall, always called pennies "coppers". He passed away in the early 1990's and STILL called 'em coppers.

Also 1 cents called "penny" or "pennies" is the usual nickname most people use. Don't know where the term "penny" comes from though.

I've also heard people call paper $2 a "deuce" I think.
