I have alot of Silver halves and a few rolls of marcury dimes. I am thinking about unloading some of them. I know dealers and gold guys may pay up to 10x face, but that leaves alot of my money on the table. ebay and Paypal can take their fair share too. How do you guys get rid of Walking halves and Mercury dimes that are not in real collectable condition but contain a good amoutn of silver. I am certainly not going to sell it for a price where I would buy it. Thanks.

I have never sold a coin, but the last time I liquidated my bulk silver, I traded it with a local dealer for coins that I needed. Doing the math, I came out ahead (I got more in product than I would have in cash) and so did the dealer (he did not have to pay out any cash and turned some inventory). Of course, this only works if your plan is to sell the bulk to buy some coins.

Oh, it's MUCH MORE THAN THAT RIGHT NOW AROUND HERE !!
Right now, my coin shop guy is buying junk 90% silver halves for 14 and a half times face, which is $7.25 apiece.
It's REALLY good right now for selling off your silver......prices could get much higher....but, traditionally, or historically, it will begin to fall at any time too. So, now "could" be the time to do it if you're going to.

I did the unthinkable yesterday......Like JB, I had never sold a coin before, not even junk silver, but I went to the coin shop and sold a bunch of my 40% and 90% Kennedys to him.......I pocketed almost $400.00 for it all !
All of these came from "roll searching" over the past several years.

If you live in a large enough town you should be able to find a dealer that will pay within 10% of melt. In small towns it's a lot harder. I live in a small town & send my scrap to a refiner. I haven't had any coins to sell, but if I did I'd probably consider APMEX. They have a certain minimum they will buy but they seem to have a decent reputation & their buy prices look reasonable.

That is great news. I will call around and get a more accurate price. I really need someone to look at these coins as I think they might gradebetter than just junk, I do not know I am new to this. I would hate to sell a $15 coin for $7. Thanks for all the comments. Everyone on this board has been really great.

Could be...

But for me it is. I would look at how much you have to sell... calculate how much youll get at current prices, estimate what you will get at +$1/oz, +2$/oz, etc and decide if that difference is worth the risk of it going down. More me it was a difference of about $30 if silver jumped up to $25/oz (when it was $22.50 ish) So I sold. Sure knowing now, I would have made another $25 or so... but if given the opportunity and the same numbers.. I would do it again.

Risk / reward. Simple as that.

If you choose to hold.. maybe figure a "no lower than" price, to minimize losses in case we already peaked and are on our way down.

Long story short......the wife wants a new King size bed !
My father n' law made us a VERY nice hand crafted African Mahogany four poster King size bed frame. He brought it over from Utah where he lives, for our wedding present.
Only problem.......WE DON'T HAVE A KING SIZE BED ! He, of course is expecting us to remedy this rather quickly......and after the honeymoon expense.....bills.....UGH !

I just had to VERY PAINFULLY breakdown and do this ! (sell my junk silver)
I DID feel VERY depressed about doing it......the money was good....but it took me SOOOO MANY YEARS to acquire all of those halves from roll searching my tail off ! .......hundreds of hours of work.....ohhhhh.......but.......I guess this is what "married folks" do right ? ...

So, I need the extra funds to purchase this huge pillow-top monstrosity of a somethin' er' other !
I tell ya, over the past few weeks, I've learned more about "coils" and "bed materials" than I EVER wanted to know....but the biggest thing I learned........ IS THAT KING SIZE MATTRESSES ARE NOT CHEAP ! Lordy Lordy ! ......

Well, with a bed like that, maybe you will sleep good and forget all about that silver.

OH ! HOW RIGHT YOU ARE ! SHE SNORES LIKE A TRUCK DRIVER !

The ONLY time " I " can get a good nights sleep, is when I've taken some cough medicene and am "knocked out" ! ...

There are other "noises" emitted from that side of the bed too, but, this being a family friendly forum, I'll let that go unmentioned ! .........l....

So, now she thinks I'm sick all the time, as I injest unhealthy amounts of Nyquil on a near nightly basis while wearing a gas mask.

Ummm......I might add:

By the way.....if she happens to read this......I'll be needing a place to stay for awhile ! .......

Luv you Honey !! ..... ....

SDcoinguy, you have the right formula, but it's all about timing.I'm sitting on 20 pounds that I got at the $15-16 mark and I still can't decide when to sell.

maineman,

i have been doing some in depth research and I've been finding a lot of researchers pointing to November as being the time when silver will start dropping... is this for sure? if it was then we would all be billionaires...

my point is that the market has swings, ups, downs, and most agree that we are in an upswing with silver. there is no doubt that it will continue to climb, just not that much more this year. I feel that in a few more weeks we will see $25, maybe $26.. but then, because of silver being overbought and overpriced, I believe, again I say, I BELIEVE, that we wil see a big sell off and the price drop dramatically.. just dont know when or by how much. but when it does, we will know. and then, I will invest more $$$
