This 1764 Carolus III Pillar Dollar was among my first 8 reales coin in my collection that I would like to share to you. I would like to know other opinion grades if possible. Thanks in advance

Looks like a beautiful XF/AU example. I love the mid 60's pillars because the strikes are so nice and the details just pop off the coin. What other 8 reales have you got stashed away that you haven't yet shared with us? The 1764 in my collection has similar detail but heavier toning. Beautiful coin you have!

Thanks RealPeso and to the community Quote: What other 8 reales have you got stashed away that you haven't yet shared with us? I have one 1758 mexico mint that I was forced to submit to PCGS for authentication. I was forced - because some of my colleagues here in the Philippines were divided in their opinions. Some says it's too good to be true because of its very sharp details and its 27.03grams full weight. I was able to acquire it posted in ebay last year as uncirculated. I will post it next... and thanks to you too jfransch for the wonderful comment

It is a beautiful coin, and also quite lucky to be among the first you bought. Some years ago, I was about to buy one very much like yours, but when the seller told me it was AU, doubts arouse from my ignorance as the lions in the shield were not sharp enough in my mind. So I did not bought it.
Nowadays I have learned to regret my decision, and I see yours and remember that mistake, as your scan even shows a very nice luster... I would say AU.

Looks a lot better than the 1760 fake I just looked at.
Question - were the edges on these coins always as "distressed"-looking as the on the coin posted here?

Quote: Nowadays I have learned to regret my decision, and I see yours and remember that mistake, as your scan even shows a very nice luster We all have big blunders in terms of buying. In my case, I was offered to pay an 1906-s one peso USPI for about US$2k. Because of a very minute bagmark on its obverse, I declined. Only to find out the one who was able to acquire it had that coin slabbed by PCGS having an AU50 grade. Now I am the one offering the 2nd owner at US$5K. That was my biggest blunder I can never forget in this hobby Quote: Question - were the edges on these coins always as "distressed"-looking as the on the coin posted here? PLS - all edges of pillar dollars do have their identities far remote from fakeones. I'll try to retrieve my file and differentiate it here soon so that we may be able to discuss a little further...

24 grams is way too light. Can you please post pictures of the two 1764 coins you bought?
