Anyone know what has happened with this coin? I found it in an "oriignal roll". I would attribute it to Post Mint Damage, but the planchet appears to be about half as thick as a standard lincoln. Here are pics:

Wow...that's interesting. If the planchet was that thin when struck, would there be missing details like that?

Looks like it was scraped to me so I'd have to say post mint damage.

I am not sure on the weight, since I do not have a scientific scale for amounts that small.

I am not sure about "scraping" because the sides have no dings or other damage. The thickness is consistent around the entire circumference edge. it is weird though to find in the middle of the roll. A number of other coins in the roll - 5 to 10 had strong skull cracks (die cracks). None had the severe wear/weakness in the NW corner of the O on the reverse as is typical with LDS wheats from the 50s.
Rest in Peace

It looks like an authentic tapered planchet in my opinion but you really should take it to your local coin shop or jeweler to have it weighed.

thin tapered planchet, I would estimate that it weighs about 2 grams and definitely drool worthy
I found a 2.7 gram planchet last year but yours puts mine to shame.

It is a great example because it is Red BU so you can see that it has not been tampered with. The areas of reverse weakness match the areas of highest relief on the obverse, there was simply not enough metal to fill the dies. The thinnest taper of the planchet is found at 8-2 on the obverse, indicated by the missing rim.

Thanks for all of the suggestions on this so far. I will find a way to weigh this, and post once I do.

It appears to have been struck on a planchet that was both tapered and rolled thin. These can weigh as little as 1.4 grams.
