My local pawn shop has some silver coins under melt. I bought a 64' half for $6 and a 41' for $7. I also got two Standing Liberty quarters for $3.50 each. They have several more 90% halves for $7 and $8. Are they worth buying a dollar or two under melt. I don't need them for sets, it would just be for the silver. They also have a Mercury book with 22 Mercs for $30. I think melt is about $36. Thanks for any ideas. HEY! I'm a valued member now. Not sure what value? Maybe a no date Buffalo or Liberty nickel. They sound like fair prices to me. If silver tanks then you will still have the numismatic value of the coins. Without seeing them first hand it sounds as if they are priced 10-15% below listed retail also. If you can afford them then I say grab them up.

Unless they were in really bad shape, I'd buy them up. About 4 months ago before silver broke $20, my goal was to pay $7 or less for silver half dollars, I would be willing to pay more now.

Snatch them all up! Silver below melt is always a good thing.

Not sure where you're living, but you might have an arbitrage opportunity there. Around here, there's a local bullion dealer that will pay 3% below melt for 90%. If you can buy for less than that, you can buy from the one, sell to the other, and make risk-free money.

Heck if you dont want them Ill take em. :-) I love silver and where its going. If you can get them for under melt and they are still good shape. Win Win. You could probably take them right to Scrap yard (Check whos paying most in your area and sell em for melt. Money Money Money.

Sounds like really good prices. Just don't pay full melt for worn coins, these can have a lot less than the standard .715 ounces/$ face in silver.

BUY! Bundle them all together, add his asking price, then negotiate a few more bucks off for buying the lot.
