Pulled these two out of rolls today. What do you think? Would you save 'em?

First the 1984-D...One of the nicest cents I've ever pulled out of a roll. Remarkably hit-free. The only thing is that it has a couple little spots of what looks like verdigris on the reverse above the you in UNITED and both T's in STATES.

Two-LMC's:-1984-D-&-1986

Now the 1986...Has severe die polish lines.

I would keep the '84-D until I find a better one,it's in nice condition for a '84-D. I would also keep the '86 not for it's condition because of the over polishing but because it shows a die clash on the obverse.IMHO,

Check out Lincoln's ear on the 1984D. To me, it looks kind of funny.

Of course you keep those silly! They are primo examples. No problem with MS-66 on either....blazing luster.

When I find these I dip a toothpick in VC and gently rub the spots of verdigris until it is removed. Dry with a clean cloth and they look great. More often than not, there is no trace of verdigris or staining on the surface.

Just wondering how they would grade MS-66 with the severe die polishing lines on the '86 and the uneven plating on the '84? Thanks,

Because those are "as struck" features. I'll tell you right now that luster plays a HUGE role in TPG grading....regardless of blemishes. If the coin is blazing with luster, it will get a higher grade.

Keep in mind that Lincoln grades are already "automatically" reduced for those types of "issues" right away. One reason why there's only one MS-69 Lincoln business strike (highest grade that I know of). Seems there's an automatic 2 point deduction from all the TPG's, the highest grade is generally MS-68. Take a Lincoln with blazing luster and just a couple minor blemishes and strike issues and it's a 66 with an additional 2 point deduction from 68.
