That would probably be a good estimate, give or take a couple of years.

I'm 25, I've only gone to two coins shows since I started collecting(just a couple months now). At both shows most of the dealers have said to me that I'm the youngest they have seen at the shows.

To me .. it would be someone under the legal age to make a business deal.
I had a friend that sold a car to a 15 year old. It did not go well and
he ended up getting a banged up car back and giving all the money back.

So for me if someone is under 18, I would consider them a YN and not want
to do any sort of selling or trading with them.

This has happened to me time and time again, I hate it when people that are older than me say its not okay to deal with me. its really unfair

It seems unfair at your age, but that is the way it is. When I first started going to coin shops (as a minor), I always had to take a parent or grandparent with me if I wanted to be taken seriously. Once the shopkeepers got to know me, I was able to leave the grownups at home.

That is somewhat harsh in my opinion. I haven't had that problem on these boards or on ebay, but then not everyone knows I'm a YN. IMO I would judge the person by how trustworthy they appear to be, instead of grouping all YN"s into the "don't deal with" category. I've done a lot of transactions here and on ebay, and have never had a problem.

I did not want to start a argument, and I am not saying that young (under 18) collectors are not trustworthy or in general a good person.

As a adult you can not make a legal binding agreement with a minor. And then there is the problem where I always like to get a good deal and I would not like to be thought of as someone who took advantage of a minor.

So to avoid any possible problem, I choose not to get into any such dealings.

You really want to know something. What your saying will never change. At a coin show I was sitting down on a chair at a table? An elderly person said to me, "You young ones really should get more exercise and not sit so much".
I still remember when I was a kid I heard my Grandfather yelling at an Uncle about throwing stones. My Grandfather was in his 80's, my Unlce in his 60's.
When my Dad was in his 80's he could no longer drive so I took him to stores. He always yelled at me that I never could remember what to get him so he has to come along. You young kids just don't remember anything. I was already in my 60's then.
It never really stops so get used to it.
I've been collecting coins for well over 60 years and I think I may no longer be a YN but not sure.

I am 52 and a YN lol ask my wife she will tell you anytime that I need to grow up lol.
I know that the ANA and other club type places will put a number on it but I think that a YN is anyone that is or has been collecting coins or trying to get into the hobby and don't know enough to buy a good coin at a fair price yet or just plain don't have the knowledge to do it on their own yet and that could be anybody with any number behind their name
just my Two Cents

It is annoying though when I'm at a show and a dealer treats me as if I know nothing about coins. There's been many instances when I'm looking around and a dealer tries to educate me on what the different mintmarks on coins stand for or something similar to that, automatically assuming I'm an ignorant new collector. It seems a lot of people group all YN's into the "new collector" category.

dealers can really be annoying. (but I LOVE to laugh at how they raise their price 250% thinking they can make a few bucks off a me)

were young collectors, not new ones.
