I just purchased this 1859 IHC and noticed the reverse appears to have some doubling. "One Cent" appears to be doubled and the area around the bow does too. Any ideas as to what variety this may if it is one? Thanks.

I think that might be Snow1 FS-301. Repunch date. Not clear enuf for my eyeballs.

OK, so I inlarged it. Definately a 1859/1859. Congrats!

I didn't even really look at that. I will definitely look into that though. I can't see it right now, but I also don't know what to look for. Thanks for that research.

Here's a pic of what I was initially referring to.

I noticed traces of an RPD too--I don't have my books on hand to confirm. On the reverse, I think you're seeing what's called "Longacre Outlines". It's where original die tools designed by Longacre had a shoulder, which transferred to the working hubs, and to individual dies.

After doing some quick research, I believe you are right about the Longacre Outlines. The lines are even around the lettering, which is not uncommon for IHC of this period. I will need to look more into the possible repunched date.

Here's another picture of the date if this helps with an identification.

That is Longacre doubling.

No added value, since it appeared on many of the coins of his designs.
