I can't believe a teller actually threw away 5? pounds of coins as you say.. That's pretty amazing. It's like the one time when I was cashing in my halves the lady walked up and said "Your total is 995.00. I promptly respond "What about the other 2 bags?". Sometimes people at the bank are just plain out incompetent.

Anyway, really glad to hear it all worked out. Take your girl out today, I'm sure she was flustered over the situation and would love the positive attention from you.

I CANNOT believe you found them in the dumpster. I am TOTALLY shocked. OMG

You could be THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE. You dont even have to deal with the bank to get them back.

You should be thanking your lucky stars right now. What an amazing lucky ordeal. I am just amazed. GO BUY A LOTTERY TICKET!

Bit of advice for you. Do your own banking. Dont rely on someone else to do your dirtywork. Organization skills might be another thing to brush up on. I do all my own dumping and my wife and kids know not to touch my coins under any circumstances. Well that is until I choke then they can take them all to the bank and return the for face.... :)

dumpster diving, I find all my silver, some of it just tossed all over the place, some of it still neatly tucked in the corner of the box. I cannot believe this guy didn't notice like 5 pounds in those two boxes! disaster averted.
Wow, talk about hunches paying off--congrats on the recovery!

That said, who throws silver coins in the trash?

I suggested earlier that you take the Bank officer to lunch. Obviously that is not needed now. Take the GF out instead. She should be much more fun, anyway!

Umm.. wow I was joking about the dumpster diving in my earlier post but glad it worked out. Still seems incredibly odd that they were thrown out though. Either way I am glad you got them back.

That was a scary, interesting story. Something to consider going forward - put your dump stuff and keep stuff in completely different type containers. You (or any future GF's) are less like to confuse the two.

Red Alert. If by some crazy reason your coins are sitting in the dumpster more than likely its a Front End Can, Front End Routes Start as early as 10pm prior night. Most start 2am along with other dumpsters Its Business and easier not to disturb customers during normal working hrs. Me I would of been knee deep in trash after I hung up the phone. Good news is just cause they picked it up theirs still a chance to track it down. Call the Garbage Company find out the Truck# and Time of Pickup (They have to fill out a Record of their pickups times locations Most Important Where they dumped the load. I have had old Lady's with deceased husbands throw out their wedding rings and find them. (of course we had our own dumping facility. To a lady who threw out a bag of jewels and jewelry 10k worth (well the husband threw it out) I gave her the landfill the load went to and she recovered it. EARLY AM HRS. Your only shot is to hope its towards the end of their route. Also Very Important to keep your cool when talking to the Bank. Be respectful yet firm if needed. Some people out their have no emotions could really care less. You will always catch more bees with honey so to say. If that don't work Have your girl as the get away driver and just weeellll never mind. LOL Good Luck If you need any help if it is thrown out. Just let me know. Garbage is my life I know the ropes and can help you if needed. Good Luck. I hope you get them back. If not you wouldn't happen to know the banks name would you. Just Kidding. Best of luck. My 2 year old took a roll of 64 Kennedys I had on the table and threw them out. Took a day but I finally tracked them down to the garbage can. Couldnt be mad at him.

so, back from the mountains, so I can put a bit of a closure to all this.

all in all, of course I was obligated to take the gf out. I suppose the best lesson in hindsight is not to expect someone unknowledgeable about coins to be able to discern the difference between them.

really really lucky...though, whoever said I was blessed to have found them, I'm not so sure about whether god cares too much about me having a small stash of silver.
