This chap has the following for sale on ebay: Item #[eBayItem]200533896246[/eBayItem], 1936 dot 1¢, Very Scarce Variety [#1]. It does not have the 'raised dot below the date'. He says it's still a 1936 dot 1¢ but it's a Variety #1. Asking price $4000. Am I missing something here?

In a previous listing he had a photo of the correct side clearly showing no dot. I confronted him and his reaction was to kill the listing, delete the photos from it, and relist without the image of the non-existent dot. Clearly sheister moves in my opinion.

Quote: Q: How about a hi resolution scan of the reverse so we can see where the 'dot' is. A: It is obvious to me that you are not speaking about the; Mint Struck, therefore the Mint Issued 1936 dot 1¢. If you were speaking about the; Mint Struck/Mint Issued 1936 dot 1¢, you would know that seeing the reverse side of the coin shown, would only serve to assist in determining the overall ; State of Preservation or Grade of the coin. Should you truly be interested in discussing the finer points of the 1936 dot coinage, please feel free to attend to the Canadiancoin.com chat site; sign-up/weigh-in and start a thread on the subject. My handle on the chat site is: cbu. Huh. Is this person for real? But thanks cbu, that added some levity to my day. .

We don't need to discuss finer points when the main point obviously is non-existent. And if that site thinks their getting my phone number to register, they're nuttier than this member of theirs.

so report him to ebay. His coin is worth face, he is evasive and is deliberately misleading buyers by using the word "dot"...that constitutes fraud...he should be kicked off ebay.

As a member of both sites, I find it hard to believe that "cbu" made that response. The CCRS site requires an address and phone # so that they can insure that the people who register are who they say that they are. There were 2 different instances in the last 7-8 years where people were making posts under other people's names. The webmaster checks out everyone who joins as to their validity, nothing more. There have been a number of people removed from the site that are not welcome back.

He is trying to draw attention to his theory that 1936 dot cents were never produced by the mint.Every thing he posts on this subject on the internet seems as incomplete and disjointed as his ebay listing. Here's a link to one of his efforts PS I mean no disrespect for the guy his style is probably due to an eccentric personality.Questioning the status quo is good for this hobby

Just in case it isn't obvious: The dot in question is a die pit, and is on the neck of the king in the obverse.
The reverse IS unimportant. This is not a "1936 Dot".
