Wish me luck, I am off to a small regional coin show today to see what I can find. Taking $200 in 40% silver halves to sell so that will be my max budget. Pulled all 400 halves out of circulation in the last 8 months so I figure I am spending $200 of my hard earned cash for a possible $1200 or so in rare coins, if I can find anything I want. Follow up post this evening when I return

Good Luck. Odd that the show is on a Saturday. Most small shows are on Sundays at least by me. Keep us informed as to how you make out.

Fun show. My exhibit on Hard Times Tokens was well received (it was a club show and six of us in the club put together displays to line the welcome table so people would stop to look and we could ask them about joining the club). Didn't sell any of the 40% silver, all the offers were way too low. I did find 3 nice coins to buy. There were about 15 dealers and the crowd during the day probably numbered 200 or so. Not bad for a small show. Saw a lot of people enter the show carrying boxes and leave empty handed so I assume the dealers were able to buy a lot of new material. All in all a fun day.

I bought all Spanish Colonial coins. I bought a 1787 Mo FM 8 reales NGC MS61, 1822/1 Ga FS 8 reales and an 1822 Do CG 8 reales. It is actually very rare for me to find any nice Spanish Colonial coins at this show, one regular dealer who knows me had them and couldn't wait to call me over and show them to me.

I wish I had more shows around me. I have 1 per year that is good and then some others that are 1-2 hours away that I may try to attend. At least I have plnty of time to save money in between shows I guess.

With to many coin shows you would be amazed at how they start to get boring. We presently have a MINIMUM of 4 coin shows a Month within 14 or 15 miles from me. Occationally a few additional really large ones too within the same distance.
I USED to go to almost all of them and there is some really good and some really bad points to so many. Many dealers have very little different items week after week. I sometimes wonder why they are there with the same things week after week. With so many local shows you see basically the same dealers also, week after week.
A really good point of that though is you get to know them and can actually ask for them to look out for certain coins for you. You get to know other collectors by just seeing them also at show after show.
Around me we also have Gun shows, knife shows, dog or cat shows, computer shows, sporting shows, camper shows and on and on and on. Many of these conflict with each other and makes it difficult to decide where to go next.

Nice purchases jfransch!

As usual I spent more than I wanted to! Whenever I spot silver coins selling under melt I just can't pass them up! There was too many steals yesterday and I couldn't leave without them!
