Thanks, jbuck. I believe that's only the third silver quarter I've found in a roll. Though I must confess I rarely do quarters.

Considering your recent success with quarters, you might want to increase your activity with them.

Not much action on this thread...
I searched all of 90 rolls of quarters in 2017 and found 1 silver (1961-D). Also found 6 silver coins in circulation thanks to a friend's tip, and 39 via Coinstar (all but 2 were in that big find just before Christmas). Not really planning on upping my searching in 2018 though.

Can someone please explain to me why so many people think Quarter's are such a waste of time. I've heard it time and time again that they're not worth it. Is there a reason it's so hard to find good stuff in them?

Webster, the main reason people feel quarters are a waste of time is because they circulate more than any other denomination. As a result, the silver coins have been pulled at a much higher rate than for dimes (and nickels). Also, it is easier to hear the "different" sound of a silver quarter, further adding to them being hard to find in circulation. Other than high grade 1982 and 1983 dated coins (pricey because no mint sets were made those years), and a few other dates, there's not a whole lot to look for in quarters. Some of the 2009-2012 coins though are quite scarce and are probably worth saving.

For Christmas this year, I bought my young daughter a 'coin collecting for kids' album, which includes pages for Statehood Quarters. In her Christmas stocking, I gave her one roll of quarters so she has something to look through and start filling some pages. Tonight, she finally got around to opening the Loomis roll and was able to find about 10 quarters that I helped her push in. Anyway, after that, she handed me a couple quarters and asked me what they were. One was a 1976 commemorative. The other was a 1941 Canadian quarter (silver). I really don't roll hunt, but maybe she should start.
