I am wanting to play with the silver commodity. I am wondering should I go purchase a bullion or should I go and by some silver coins? I am only wanting to invest about 20 to 30 dollars a week. All opinions will be considered. I am off to work to make that ot for my investment!
Thanks Charlie

If you buy a bullion coin you are pretty much locked in to it's bullion only. If you buy a silver collectible coin you have the bullion value and the collector value. As long as you choose a collectible coin that will increase in collector value your ahead of the game,IMHO John1

IMHO,
i would wait to buy silver until after the 1st, 2nd week in November. why? the fed meets to discuss the QE2, and mid-term elections, VERY telling in which way this country will go for the next few years.
it was very hard for me to NOT buy any silver yesterday at the coin shop because I just didn't feel like it was quite the right time to buy. I guess we will find out soon..
i might add though, $20-$30/week is a good idea. its not a lot of risk, and the silver market will not be that volatile that you would loose THAT much on the investment, short-term.

If your dealer has junk bins, you can probably find lots of common date MS dimes and quarters. I sure can at my LCS. I have also been able to pick out lots of old (1918+ SLQ and 1900+ barbers)I wish I had the budget to pick up the older coins, but I just dont.

My local coin dealer, which, BTW, I am very satisfied with, told me that as long as it is from a reputable company, that .999 fine bars and rounds are just as good as most other forms of silver bullion. Raw ASE's and Maple Leafs get a little more premium tho. Of course, you will also pay a premium when you buy them. He also is paying the same amount for 90% US silver coinage, as he is paying for .999 fine bullion bars and rounds. I think it depends on whether ya want to collect coins or invest in PM's. Right now, I agree with SDcoinguy, the market is 'up in the air' right now and I also believe it will be decided how PM's go after the QE2 meeting. I also think that the 2010 election will be a factor in PM prices.

Because of a lack of interest in Mexican Silver coins in my local area coin shows I have recently been scoring silver at less than melt! I've been buying up .900 & .720 fine silver and even the 1oz .999 Libertads I've been able to score at spot whereas on ebay I can never get any because they are always going for 6-7 dollars above spot or even more if it is a key date. So depending on your area you might want to look into that if all you want is to hold on to some silver of course you might see the opposite also with dealers charging outrageous prices for Mexican coins because they are "exotic".

IF you think silver will go down and it's at its highest for years to come, buy numismatic. At these prices everything looks more affordable. And when metal prices drop they will more than likely retain their value. Get the best grade you can afford - the wisest advice I've heard.
However, if you think metal prices are not high enough, then go for something that is liquid. ASEs can be sold as lots or singles without much problem. Bars are another story because the buyer must be locked into a fixed amount (10ozt for example). ASEs are a good investment because of this factor. You can buy and part with as many as you feel comfortable.
Personally, I'm going for highest grade possible (hgp) numismatics with buying bullion on the side at under melt for a faster flip. If you're going short-term then buy under melt only. Long-term price shouldn't matter much since it's based on speculation of a huge price increase.
