I am wondering you you experienced collectors can shed some light on this for me? Does the 1942 Merc dime have a rather common doubling of the date & profile? I have looked at quite a few recently and all seem to have the same odd appearance (primarily of the profile), which is quite different from other Merc dimes, And a faint doubling of the date.

Because I am seeing this with so many of my 42 Merc, I am assuming it is common rather than an error or something.
Thanks for educating me.

An image would help so we could check other examples to see if it is common. The term profile makes me thing of Machine Doubling. Is the doubling on the date flat shelf like? If so it may just be Machine Doubling.

Generally "doubling of the date" on a 1942 Mercury dime is going to be Machine Doubling, but nobody can help determine that without a good image.

Yes the 42's are frequently seen with Machine Doubling at the date.
