I have a 1922 Peace dollar with the letters A, L, and P where the mint mark should have been. I have not been able to find anything about this. Can anyone help?

A pic would help, but if it is buy where the mintmark would be on the reverse, it is probably a counterstamp.

Also, if by counterstamp you mean over an existing mint mark, this is not the case.

Sorry. I just discovered that this may actually be a counterstamp. there is no trace of a mint mark, which is why I was confused.

a mint mark is about the size of an 1/8 of an inch and that bigger than it=s minted.....Pic please.......sounds like a counter stamped coin.....not a mint mark, post your pics and lets be done with it.

Just to point out, older coins minted in Philadelphia do not have a mint mark. Newer ones have started to carry them, but this is still inconsistent.

So - as others have said, you probably have a P minted coin with a counterstamp.

As I said before, the images I have are too large to upload. I can email them, if you want.
