That is quite a coin! I haven't seen one like that before. I have purchased coins from that seller in the past and have had great experiences. He carries nice error coins.

At first I thought it looked a little fishy, but it is certified by NGC. Wonder why the bidding started so low though?

OK - what is a 'ring of fire' effect?

Ring of Fire is a bit of a marketing claim intended to make the coin sound fancier and more expensive. Actually, on this coin, it is the effect on the reverse where the zinc shows through the copper in a ring and gives the illusion of flames with the two colors and the random stretching.

I only have one question...If this is a chain strike, why is the obverse centered? My understanding of how the press works isn't the greatest, and I can't figure it out.

That is a cool error. Low starting bid and 10 day auction, I do it quite often ;-)

03krafty: On the slab it mentions brockages. Which means the obverse was struck through other plancets which were already struck. Thus the reversed letters were transferred from coins and not dies during the striking of this ?coin?

I get what is meant by 'Ring of Fire' now - thanks clairhardesty. Is it caused by a stretching of the copper to the point where the zinc shows through it?
