Found it in amongst a tub of Condor tokens and other old coppers at a market today. It's my first proper colonial copper so very happy to find it. Any opinions on grade? www.kingstoncoincompany.co.uk

Terrific catch! I assume you got it for a great price too?
Looks to be an 8-string variety.
Somewhere around "VG8+ Details, damaged"

Thanks for the info cheetahcats.
It was a great price, I bought Five coins for £4 (about $6), so about $1.20!

Want to double your money on that one? Just kidding! You made a great find. I think I would call it Fine-12 details at least, based on what I have seen in slabs.

Between VG-8 detail and Fine-12 details would be about what I was hoping. Have to say I've not found any sale prices for them in this grade, only very high grade examples. I'm tempted to keep it but really trying to be strict in not staying out my collecting area!

Jeff - Here's a link to a slabbed NGC Fine Details (F-12) specimen that was sold by Heritage. Upon inspection of the specimen's reverse you'll notice that its devices are slightly better defined. Hence the VG-8+ Details opinion of your specimen. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...&Lot_No=3131The price you paid for your specimen is spectacular! The Fine specimen noted above sold for US $373.75 just last month. - Cheetah

I agree cheetahcats, Definately a noticeable difference on the F 12 example. If I sell it i'll stick to a VG 8+ details description. My mark up on $1.20 should still be pretty good Thanks very much for the opinions

Quote: Found it in amongst a tub of Condor tokens A "tub" of Conder tokens? ARRRGHHH! So frustrating, I'm over HERE, and all the tokens are over THERE.

Don't get me wrong it not swimming in condor tokens here! But admittedly they are comparitively easy to find cheaply in lower grades. If you ever get a chance go go for a coin hunt in London, i'll be happy to give a few tips on places to start

Some of my best sources for specimens are out of the U.K... and we're not just talking about Conder Tokens either.

A nicely centered coin with a small amount of porosity. I think you did very well!
