Guess not!

I have some catching up to do.

That's funny that they did the horseshoe two different ways. Is one for the catholics and the other for the orthodox?

See the last paragraph of the description. Some people believe that a horseshoe brings you luck when worn or hung with the opening up ("u"). Others say it must be the other way round ("n"). To make both camps happy, they issue both varieties ...

I had been to Riga sometime in the year 2008. Most of the 50c and 1 and 2 lats coins I have seen there circulating are either 1992 (the one with the Fishy) and 2007-2008. I bought a 2008 1 Lats (one with the snowman) from a dealer along with a 2003 Bimetallic 2 Lats coin, plus brought back a 5 Lats banknote, that is uncirculated. I still keep them. There was a shop that sells Latvian Mint's products and there was a coin called Coin of Time. It had a very lovely design but a little bit pricey. However, that one with an amber mounted on is very lovely too.

Yea! I now have eight of these, though I'm still way behind Svslav and Dmio. I also still have plenty of my avatar coin, which I will be happy to trade with anyone for almost anything.

And I thought only I couldn't count!

At the moment I have only 6 (current), all pictured in this thread. But I have about six more on the way including both horseshoes (upside up and upside down).

I'm up to 16 now, Svslav! I'm going to get a blank 5/8" Dansco album with two 22 mm pages to keep them in. I'm having trouble with the Salmon one though. I find info that it was issued in 1992, 2004, 2007, and 2008 from different sources, but no one source confirms all four dates, and for all I know there may be more dates for the Salmon. Anyone know definitively?

According the Bank of Latvia site it's only three years, 1992, 2007, and 2008.

Well, I guess now I'm way behind! If you're getting all three salmons I'll be behind forever because one fish is enough for me.

Krause says only 1992 and 2008, but a nice lady in Latvia is sending me a 2004 Salmon, and I've got to figure she can read.

Let us know when it arrives. And I'm more inclined to trust nice Latvian ladies than the Krause.

I don't know about the "official" bank site though ...

She will be able to read, but does she know the difference between a salmon and a mushroom? (snicker)

The catalog that I use says that the 1992 pieces were minted in Munich, DE. The 2007 and 2008 coins were made in Pessac, FR. It does not mention a 2004 issue either.

Quote from the above link:
""Since ancient times, Latvians have seen ants as a symbol of diligence and industriousness," said Vejins.

6000 species of ants have been found on the planet, and Latvia is home to only 42 of them. The redwood ant (Formica Rufa) is the most common ant in Latvia - these ants use needles and twigs to make ant-hills up to 1.5 metres in diameter and 1 metre in height. This is the ant featured on the new coin."

Are we using the same catalog? My catalog -- Weltmünzkatalog 20. & 21. Jahrhundert: 1900 - 2010 by Günter Schön -- says the same thing.
