I have a 1921 Morgan that has a huge line that runs under the leaves and O in DOLLAR from the arrow heads to the rim. I can't find anything that matches this in my VAM book and it doesn't look like it's raised, though it's so thin, it's hard to tell. Any ideas? I want to put this coin up for sale tonight if possible.    |

Oh My! thats awsome! I am not familiar with 1921's like SuperDave but I have never seen one like it in any publication I own or on any site that I know about. May be one (after SuperDave answers)to send to Leroy to see what he says about it and may be a new discovery

There's no attributed VAM like that. I think it's a planchet flaw - a die crack would go through the O, and this doesn't look to. It_does look like it goes through the leaves, though, so I gotta wonder. You need to get that thing under a microscope, quick.  If it's raised, I would think it's a crack (a raised flaw on the planchet would likely have been stamped flat), and it's going to be darn near unique because a VAM that obvious would have been discovered a long time ago if there were more than a couple of them. |

I wouldn't be selling it anytime soon until you figure out exactly what it is because a discovery coin and one that there is only a possibility of a few of them to exist can be very very desirable the 1X comes to mind once again

It is definitely eventually going to be sold but not with the batch I'm launching tonight.  I have never sent anything to Leroy or had any contact with him. Do any of you have an established relationship with him or can you tell me how to get in touch with him to look at this coin? |

Well, Leroy looked at the pics and has asked me to send the coin to him which I'll be doing tomorrow. Can't wait to find out what he has to say about this one!  |

When a die cracks it is gonna crack at its weakest point. Starting at die surface or face. In this case I believe that the shape and depth of the O kept the die crack from entering the center of the O. Note the shallowness of the crack, and see it in reverse. It is on the surface of the cracking die, thusly close to planchet in low relief. I see a die crack. Cool none the less. Hope this helps. Gusp

Well, I heard back from Leroy. It's a VAM 32. He said that there is some staining on the reverse but he doesn't see any die cracks. It looked like one to me, but he's the expert.  |
